Year 4 week ending 21st September 2018

Year 4 week ending 21st September 2018

This week we have been learning to:

Numeracy – we have been rounding numbers to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000 and partitioning one pace decimals.

Literacy – identifying how authors create suspense in stories.

Science – ordering types of friction into high friction / low friction and useful / non-useful categories.

Humanities – we have been researching Disney film from each decade and putting them in chronological order on a timeline, along with world events from the same time periods.

P.E – we have added another section to our Peter Pan shadow dances, continued to practice dribbling, hand – eye co-ordination and ball control skills.

ICT – this week we have focussed on research skills linked to our topic of Disney using search engines safely and appropriately.

How you can help at home:

Numeracy –  my maths homework has been set on rounding numbers to 10 and 100 and partitioning decimals.

Literacy – start looking at non-fiction texts you have at home.  What are the key features? Are there charts, graphs, different types of print, index, headings, captions and labels?

Humanities – next week we will be looking at Walt Disney himself.  In preparation, research some key facts about him such as when he was born, where he loved, who his family were, when he died etc.

Science – please can the children bring in different size carrier bags as we will be using them to test air resistance.

Spellings – please remember to practice your spellings. Try writing them and combing them in sentences or even a story to show you understand them.

Have a lovely weekend.

Mrs Maunder and Miss Clarke.
