Reception Home Learning W/E 14.12.18

This week we have been learning about-

Numeracy- Time
Days of the week

Literacy- Identifying different types of punctuation.
Continue with sounds and blending.

How to help your child at home-

Numeracy- Please could you help your child to learn the days of the week and also associate specific activities with certain days. For eg.- We don't go to school on Saturday and Sunday. We start back to school on a Monday. We go swimming on..........etc. Also beginning to understand what time we go to bed, get up, have tea etc.

Thank you for the lovely costumes that the children wore for the Christmas Concert. I was so very proud of their performances as I'm sure you were too. Just to let you know on Monday morning we will be visiting Crick Care Home. We will be singing carols and socialising with the residents. This is always an amazing experience for both generations.

Year 4 week ending 7.12.18

Year 4 week ending 7th December 2018

This week we have been learning to:

Numeracy – we have been using our measuring skills to wrap a present using the least amount of paper possible and been learning how to add numbers using the expanded column method.

Literacy – we have drafted, edited and presented our reports on jungle animals.

Christmas production rehearsals are in full swing and we thoroughly enjoyed the carol service on Wednesday afternoon.

How you can help at home:

Numeracy –  try adding these numbers together using the expanded column method we learnt this week.  This video will help to remind you of the process.

Science – next week we will be designing and making a vehicle that is powered by a force.  Start thinking about what this could look like, you could even try designing one ready to bring into school.  How would it work? If you have any junk material to make them from we would be grateful if you could bring these in.

P.E – please could you make sure that P.E kit, including trainers, is in school at all times.

Christmas Play – please remember to bring your costumes in on Monday if you haven't already done so.

Spellings – please remember to practice your spellings. Try writing them and combing them in sentences or even a story to show you understand them.

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Maunder and Mrs Phillips

Year 4 Home Learning w/e 30.11.18

In Maths this week we have- looked at capacity, including converting between ml and l and estimating amounts.
In Literacy this week we have been designed posters to advertise our products for the Fayre next week and created a first draft of our report on an animal.
Carrying on with our work on Excel spreadsheets, including using auto-fill and multiplying two cells.

At home you could: look at a range of containers, how are they recorded? Some maybe in ml, some l, some both? Make a list for us to discuss. What was the largest? Smallest? Try estimating pouring 100ml or 500ml? How close were you? Also, have a look at- http://www.bbc.co.uk/skillswise/worksheet/ma23capa-e1e2-w-comparing-capacities

For our Big Write next week, we will be writing a winter poem, so have a think of some useful images, adjectives and similes for this.

Have a nice weekend, Mrs Maunder and Mrs Phillips
