Year 4 Home Learning- Mrs Maunder and Mrs Phillips W/E 8.11.19

In Maths- We have been looking at 'best value' for money on fireworks- they have found this quite tricky, so if you are able to practise some, it will really help.

For example, I want to buy ten rockets- 1 costs £2, 10 cost £24- which is best value?

A bit more challenging would be- Rockets- £6.99 for a pack of 10, buy two packs for £15.00 or £8.00 for a box of 10, buy one get one half price.

Next week we will be looking further at a bar chart. Have a look at https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Flash.aspx?f=barchartv2. I have given them all a piece of graph paper, can they collect some data of their choice, favourite crisp flavours, sports etc and create a bar chart to represent it. Bring them back on Monday to share. Remind them to include all necessary features, title, labelled axis etc.

In Literacy¸ we wrote a diary entry about Guy Fawkes, imagining we were one of the plotters against the King. Could they write a diary entry for one of their weekend days, or create a simple comic strip illustrating and narrating the story.

In Technology- we started to look at a Roman aqueduct and the style in which they were built. Next week we will be designing and making our own in small groups and testing it carries water. If they could collect some materials that would be great, e.g cardboard, tubes, etc.

Next week in ICT we will be looking at asking yes/no questions and following a branching database, you could play a game where you have a number of items in a group together, e.g hair brush, saucepan, jumper, pen… and ask someone yes/no questions as to which one they had chosen. Is it blue? IS it hard? Can it be used for cooking? Can you wear it?

Have a lovely weekend,

Mrs Maunder and Mrs Phillips
