This activity to complete over the week.

If you have some bottle tops, please could you write a  b  c  d  e  f  A  B  C  D  E  F on each top, then have a go during the week to match the small case letter to the capital letter. Explain to your child that they have a capital letter at the beginning of their name and when we write a sentence. Can you think of anyone that has one of these letters at the beginning of their name?

I know we have completed these sounds 3 times, but it is really important that these sounds are embedded. So your child can read, write and spell words with these sounds. There is plenty of time to complete speed set 3 sounds after speed set 2 sounds are completely embedded. However we will be writing more complex sentences and reading additional tricky words.

Fitness- Diary

In preparation for Sports Day, can you create a fitness diary over the week? Encourage your family to join in too. In your book you can write- On Monday I like to run. On Tuesday I like to hop. On Wednesday I like to jump etc. Draw some pictures of what you like to do. What exercise are you looking forward to doing after Lockdown? Try to spell as many words as you can on your own.

 

Creative- We will do this over 2 days, Wednesday and Thursday

I hope you have found out some interesting information about Kandinsky. The shapes he was most interested in were the circle, triangle and the square. Can you remember how many sides these shapes have? Which is you favourite shape? I like the triangle as it is the only shape that has 3 sides. Perhaps you could look on youtube to see some of Kandinsky's abstract paintings. Can you see how colourful they are? Can you identify any shapes in his paintings?

Let's paint like Kandinsky!!

Get a big piece of paper and encourage your child to create circles of various sizes. Colour the circles in. You can use paint, felts, chalks, pastels or anything really. Cut out the circles and glue the smallest circle over the biggest one to create a layering of circles. Each circle should have about 3/4 layers of different colours. Take your time doing this, it doesn't have to be done in one day as you child will become fed up. 

Mindfulness

Animal Friend- do this outside.

Settle down and relax. Close your eyes. Breathe in love and breathe out worry…

The sun is shining, birds are singing. You hear a rustling in the bushes and then a giggle. It's an animal watching you and it wants to be your friend. What kind of animal is it? Let it come close so that you can sit together and be close. This animal is wise and hear to support you. If you have a question, a secret or a problem you can share it with him. He will help you. Your animal friend loves you very much.

Literacy 

To make story stones

This will be your Literacy for today and tomorrow. Think about your favourite story, or you could even make it up. You will also need to collect some decent seized stones/ pebbles linked to the amount you think you will need. Your job is to retell a story (of course you will probably want to summarise it slightly as you may struggle with finding enough stones!) On each stone/ pebble, draw or paint a little part of the story. You may decide to just do characters and settings on the story/ pebble and use a video recording/ voice over/ writing to explain the story. It is your choice. You may decide to ask someone to put the story in order once you are finished! I look forward to seeing them. 

Maths

To divide (share)

Explain dividing means sharing out. It is linked to timetables so if we are confident with them then dividing and sharing will be easy!

Use the BBC bitesize lesson for an input/ introduction. Ignore activity 2. You may also wish to complete some examples practically with objects so the children can physically share out the items. Tomorrow will start to introduce remainders so please don't introduce that today. There is also a challenge sheet. See how many you can answer in a set time.

As mentioned yesterday, we will be looking at the Wildlife trusts 30 days of wildness. These can be accessed through our school Twitter feed or on the links below. 

We are a day behind but that doesn't matter! We are now on day 2- unless of course you want to follow the days correctly and keep an eye out for day 3 today! On the Year 2 shared folder on HWB are also some resources you may want to use.

A big thank you to George who has found a new search engine for us to use which also helps the oceans! Ocean Hero works in the same way as google and bing. Time for Tuesday learning!

Your literacy and numeracy are scheduled to be live from 9am on google classroom for tomorrow, with instructions how to complete each activity.

Numeracy will continue with designing your aquarium. Remember, there is no set budget or amount of animals needed, it is completely up to you. It is up to you if you want to hand it in day by day or all together on Friday.

Literacy will continue to work on your hedgehog fact files.

Remember to look at your topic activities and share photographs with us on the stream or hand them in as we love to see what you have done.

Don't forget your spellings, reading and Welsh.  Try and spend at least fifteen minutes a day reading and learning your spellings.

Year 1 Tuesday home learning

Maths-Using standard measures

Yesterday we looked at non standard measures. Today we will look into using standard measures to prepare a product. I have uploaded a no cook playdough recipe in Hwb in the topic folder. Alternatively you could use any recipe.

• Bronze: Follow the recipe to create no cook playdough.
• Silver: Edit the recipe to double the amount and halve the amount.
• Gold: Tell them that we can use different types of measures to get the same result. Explain that grams are a different type of measure. Use this website to convert cups to grams https://www.goodtoknow.co.uk/food/cups-to-grams-converter-87833. Explain that the amount hasn't changed

Topic-My toys.

Today and tomorrow we will look at the toys of today and the toys of the past. I have uploaded a worksheet that children can use to help them complete this task but this is optional

• Bronze: Find their favourite toy and draw a picture of it. Now label the feature of the toy such as what it is made of, whether it is electronic or not and what it is made of
• Silver: Could this toy of existed when your grandparents were your age? Sort your toys into toys that you think could be around when your grandparents were children and into toys that could not of been
• Gold: Try to prove that your sorted toys are correct. (They could ask parents/grandparents, research on the internet or watch a childrens TV show/film set in the right time period.

English-Capital letters, full stops and joining words.

Today we shall use part of the BBC bitesize lesson to help us use full stops, capital letters and joining words correctly.  https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmqtnrd. Ask the children if they can remember when we should use a full stop (End of sentences); capital letters (start of sentences and proper nouns like London or Shirley) and joining words.

• Bronze: Complete activity 1
• Silver: Look through the no cook recipe. Can they find examples of joining words, full stops and capital letters? They could highlight each one in a different colour.  a piece of work they have completed previously. (Could be the penpal letter or the topic work they have just done) Have they used capital letters, full stops and joining words correctly? They can highlight each example green as they find them in their work.
• Gold: They choose a piece of work that they have done to self edit. They highlight capital letters, joining words and full stops as before and edit if needed. (Remember to praise the work and explain that everyone makes mistakes the first time)

Literacy 

To write a diary entry 

Using the BBC Bitesize lesson here

The children will incorporate the days of the week accurately and verbs as well as their connectives to write a mini diary entry of what they have done throughout the week. This can be real or made up and can be taken from any week. This will allow the children to apply various skills they have learnt such as capital letters, spelling, connectives, full stops etc. Try to get the children to also add in months of the year. See how accurate they are in ordering them as well as which months are in which seasons. Try to also get them to become familiar with January being month 1, October month 10 etc. 

Extension/ Gold- you may decide to imagine you are a character from a story writing a diary entry about how you feel and what you have been doing.

On the Year 2 shared folder on HWB are 5 different problems, following on from yesterday. They each have an easier and harder set. Have a go at working through the problems- don't worry if you find them tricky, just do what you can. The first problem on each is designed for KS1 and the second problems is more KS2- some of you might be able to challenge yourself to solve some of these too! 

Please keep developing your xtable recall. You can use J2Blast on HWB for this or top marks if you want to play fun games. 

Topic

To make an instrument and compose a piece of music 

Carrying on from yesterday, using The BBC Bitesize lesson work through the activities and videos to make your own instrument out of jam jars. See what you can play! There are a few different instruments you can make if you wish to do so.

It may be your own made up composition or you may decide to try and play a tune you already know. It would be lovely if these could be recorded and sent to me for me to see!  You can also decorate your instruments.

Next Monday (8^th June), the school will be running a Virtual Lockdown Sport Day. Each class will complete 1 activity which will depend on the most popular one chosen. Suggestions are- How long can you balance on 1 leg? How far can you walk with a book on your head? Egg and spoon race etc. I will let you know by the end of the week the activity most of you have voted for. Then if you take a photo of this activity as proof, you will receive 1 house point. Don't forget to dress up in your PE kit!

Continue with the shop activity using 1p  2p  5p  and 10p coins.

All Children- Buy items using a 2p coin and additional 1p coins to make the required amount. So 5p would be a 2p and 3, 1p coins. Or if you are very clever 2, 2p coins and a 1p coin.

Most Children- Buy items above 5p. So that you use a 5p coin and then additional 1p coins.

 

Challenge- Buy items bigger than 10p, but use different coins. So 11p could be 2, 5p coins and a 1p. Keep the numbers low to begin with.

Can you find out where Kandinsky was born? What was his first job? Do you know what musical instrument he played? Kandinsky felt that he could express feelings and music through colours and shapes in his paintings. What colour do you think of when you are excited? Happy? Sad? Angry? What is your favourite colour? Why?

Can you think of 3 emotions as above and draw a picture in a particular colour to represent those emotions. E.g. A yellow, sunny, happy picture. A green picture of feeling calm and relaxed. Or you can just choose 3 colours, play some classical music and create an abstract picture with no particular theme.

I am protected- Place your hands on the floor outside your feet.

I am a wise turtle- Round your back; reach your head toward your feet.

Turtles always have a safe, quiet space to go inside. So do you! What do you do there?

Turtles also have a strong shell to protect themselves. How do you protect yourself when you are in a difficult situation?

Welcome back, I hope you were able to have a rest and enjoy the sunshine during half term.

Today's activities will be available from 9am on Google classroom
Literacy - to create a senses mind map
Numeracy - to understand two way tables
Spellings - new spellings for the week

Our new topic, as chosen by you, is Nature/ wildlife. Your Topic activities are all on Google Classroom from today for you to choose which you would like to do throughout the week
Science and Technology - make a bug catcher and become a wildlife detective
Humanities - take a micro journey through nature
Health and Wellbeing - 60 second challenges
Expressive Arts - nature mandalas
ICT - branching database to classify wildlife

It is the last day for you to let me know your ideas for our virtual sports day next week. Remember to send me a message with your ideas.

Also keep up with your daily activities of reading, times tables and spelling journals.

Welcome back to the final half term of the school year. I hope you all had a relaxing break and made the most of the lovely weather!

Today's tasks are available in Google Classroom from 9am. 

Literacy - reading comprehension task

Maths - Theme Park enterprise project

Spellings for the week are uploaded today - remember to learn, and ask someone at home to test you at the end of the week. Well done to those of you who are learning more difficult spellings than normal and getting great scores!

Keep going with j2blast to develop  quicker recall of times table/ division facts, which will make your other Maths work much easier!!

Please also continue with daily reading - at least 10 to 15 minutes a day ideally. This could be a book, a magazine, a newspaper or even a website such as Newsround.
