Internet Safety

All pupils

With many children spending more time online than usual at the moment, ensuring they know how to stay safe is hugely important.

There are fab interactive games and resources for children available from

CEOP are also creating fortnightly downloadable activity packs that you can work through with your child - these will be available at https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/Support-tools/home-activity-worksheets/

As always, we would love to see any activities you complete. Share with us on Twitter, or pehotograph and email to your child's teacher. Stay safe everyone.

The ones that have been completed so far, so we will look forward to seeing more today and tomorrow.

Don't forget to try and find some time for times tables practise  on J2Blast. (I'm hoping to set up a class challenge today!)

You have spellings to practise ready for Friday's test and any unfinished work on HWB from the last few months to try and complete!!

Well done Year 4, we are so impressed with your hard work and it brightens up our day to see it!

Take care,
Mrs Maunder and Mrs Phillips

Oh and one last thing, tomorrow for Big Write we will be writing a 'Thank you' letter to our NHS or local Councillors so have a think what you might like to thank them for.

Year 6 Thursday 2.4.20

Bore da Year 6,

Your home learning activities are all ready for you and will be available from 9am. You have worked so hard this week. Thank you for putting so much effort into your learning. I'm very impressed and proud of how you are completing the activities at home. Well done.

Activities for today included;
Literacy- to plan writing a TV advert
Numeracy- to solve problems using g and kg
Topic - to use coding to create a game

Alongside these remember to complete 10 minutes of spelling journal activities and 10 minutes of times tables during the day. Remember your daily welsh activity too.

Remember it is important to get moving through out the day. So try and get up and do an activity which makes your heart rate increase. Maybe you could join Joe Wickes for his daily work out or play a game in the garden.

From today, if you haven't already I'd like you to try and spend atleast 15 minutes of your day quietly reading your favourite book. Find somewhere peaceful and enjoy. You could try listening to an audio book if you prefer. I'd love to know which books you are reading, let me know by emailing me.

Take care and stay safe,
Mrs Cotton

Year 5 02.04.20

Today's tasks are live on Google Classroom from 9am - full instructions attached to each posted assignment. If for any reason the online documents don't work, or you would prefer to work offline some of the time, it is absolutely fine to complete a task on paper. You can always take a photo of what you've done and share this with me through a comment on the post, or via Hwb email.
Remember that the bigger tasks don't need to be completed all in one go - feel free to return to the work as often as you wish.

Literacy - looking for signs of spring, making notes using descriptive features

Maths - calculating averages

Read Theory

Humanities - research and create a Powerpoint about a country of your choice

I would like you to spend at least 10 minutes per day on j2blast to really become confident with your times tables - this can be practising, live challenges, or a mixture of both. It's great to see that lots of you have been on since last week, and I'll be interested to keep an eye on who's taking top spot on the leaderboard!

Please also continue with daily reading - at least 10 to 15 minutes a day ideally. This could be a book, a magazine, a newspaper or even a website such as Newsround.

Keep sharing your learning, it's great to see!

Reception Home Learning 2.4.20

Reception Class Thursday 2nd April
To the Parents and children of Reception Class.
I hope you have found the RWI live sessions helpful. After the Easter break, there will be word time and spelling lessons added, so that will be really helpful. Also they are releasing a poem at 2.00pm everyday on YouTube. These are aimed at Reception and Year 1 children. They have said they will add PDFs of the poems to their website soon.
Resources-If you login to the Read Write Inc site, phonics page on Oxford Owl for Home. You will need to login or register to access an eBook library. You can then access
·         72 free eBooks matched to Read Write Inc. phonics books
·         62 speed sounds practise sheets
·         28 ditty practise sheets.
·         Parent information booklets
·         8 speedy green word slides

Literacy
Mrs Garbett's group
oo sound- zoo mood pool moon
Today will be the oo (poo at the zoo) sound. Make 4 words with oo sound. Get your child to identify the special friends (oo) and then blend and read the word. After a few recaps you can say the word for your child to write down. Do this with the 4 words and then 1 recap word (book). Mark together. Remember to use tall and short letters, (they are not all the same size). Tall letters should touch the top of the line and small letters half way. If you can see your child forming letters incorrectly, just practise a line of one of them. Dictate this sentence several times and then encourage your child to write it down- I will cast a spell on you. Mark together and write out again if it needs to be corrected. If you can see your child forming letters incorrectly, just practise a line of one of them.

Mrs Evans group.
nk- think drink sink rink
Today will be the ng sound. Make 4 words with nk (I think I stink) sound. Get your child to identify the special friends (ng) and then blend and read the word. After a few recaps you can say the word for your child to write down. Do this with the 4 words and then 1 recap ng word? Mark together. Remember to use tall and short letters, (they are not all the same size). Tall letters should touch the top of the line and small letters half way. If you can see your child forming letters incorrectly, just practise a line of one of them. Dictate this sentence several times and then encourage your child to write it down- I can run. I can skip. Mark together.

Mrs Miles group (I am conscious that I might be going a little too quickly with this group, as not all children knew all initial sounds). So feel free to go back over previous words and plod on with initial sounds.
Word Time 5-met fun log hit
Recap all initial sounds. This is really important. Say the words above in FRED TALK (say each syllable rather than say the word). Encourage your child to tell you what you have said. Only tell them the word if you have said it several times and they still don't know. Then dictate one word at a time and encourage your child to write it down. Mark together. Please support your child to form letters correctly with the handwriting sheet that they should have in their sound folders. Also perhaps play fastest finger with the sounds learnt so far.

Numeracy.
Position-Use language next to, above, under, on top of, underneath, forwards, backwards, turn to the right and left.
This can be done using a cuddly toy, doll, dinosaur etc. Demonstrate placing the toy next to for example a chair, underneath the chair etc. So your child becomes familiar with the language. Also, begin to help your child to recognise right and left. (This is a tricky concept).

All Children-Do this practically.
Most- Draw 4 boxes in your exercise book and draw a picture of your toy using positional language.
Challenge- Identify your right and left hand. Perhaps you could give your child instructions to move to somewhere in the house using directions. Then swap over and your child could give you instructions.

Mindfulness. First thing in the morning if you can. The whole family, you all need this!
Inhaling the Universe
·         Stand with your feet wide apart. Raise your toes up and lower them again. Feel the bottoms of your feet on the floor.
·         Raise your arms as high as you can, fingers spread, and breathe in deeply, hold your breath.
·         Bend forward, breathe out and say a big Ahhh! Swing your arms down by your sides.
·         Breathe in and imagine scooping the entire universe into your arms and over your head as you stand up again. Hold your breath and imagine showering yourself with stars, planets and space.
·         Bend forward, releasing your breath and another big Ahhh!
·         Imagine scooping the universe up and over your head two more times.
·         End your exercise by taking three soft, slow, mindful breaths. Remember you are an important part of the universe.

Creative
Yesterday I asked you to create a flower in the style of Georgia o' Keefe (remember the petals touch the edges of the paper). Whether you have done it using the paint program on Hwb or paint, colours etc, perhaps you could do this-FOR NHS NIGHTINGALE HOSPITAL. They are asking for children to create a rainbow to decorate their new wards. You can either send a picture of your draawing to my email, or share on Twitter using #RainbowsForNightingale
WE CAN DO THIS, MY LITLE DARLINGS.

Welsh
Recap these language patterns-
Ble rwyt ti'n byw?   Where do you live?
Answer- Dw i'n bwy yn……….  I live in…….

My email address is- MilesD8@hwbmail.net if you need to contact me.
Thank you
Mrs Miles

Year 2 Thursday 2 April

It is great to see how hard you are all working and it is always lovely to see your work being uploaded or emailed across, please keep them coming!

As we are due to start a new topic after Easter ( no longer Endangered animals) I would love for you all to send over any ideas or suggestions for a new topic you would like to learn about. Send over your topic ideas with some suggestions of activities you would like to do and I will go with the majority or create a poll/ vote on HWB for you all. If you wish to carry on with Endangered animals then of course we can but the choice is yours!

Remember you can copy and paste the whole pdf onto a word document if easier and you are free to choose your challenges, completing more than one if you wish.

Literacy
To answer questions about a text
On the Year 2 shared folder on HWB are reading comprehension activities. There is a text all about Spring and a text all about Rainforests. You can choose which text to do or you may choose to do them both. I would recommend reading the text 3 times in total. You may read it first of all to your child, then get them to read it themselves a second time, then re-read it together a 3rd time when looking at the questions. I wouldn't look at the questions until it has been read twice and discussed. Try to encourage your child to read the questions independently and maybe asking and talking about the key information in the question. Encourage them to underline the key words they are looking for in the question and then refer to the text for the correct information, underlining that also. This is useful if they find it trickier to remember some of the information they have read.

Bronze- set 1
Silver- set 2
Gold- set 3

Maths
To solve word problems
Yesterday you used the expanded method to add and subtract numbers. Using the same method you are going to now solve word problems. They are only addition but don't tell your child that. Let them determine if it is add or take away from reading the question. Read the questions carefully discussing the key words which allow them to know it is an addition sum. You may decide to just do a handful of them. If they are confident try giving them some of your own subtraction ones but don't tell them they are going to be subtraction. I will set a mixture of these word problems after Easter. The activities are saved as wp1 wp2 wp3 on the Year 2 shared folder on HWB.

Bronze- set 1
Silver- set 2
Gold- set 3

Topic
To create acts of kindness cards
This activity focuses on small acts of kindness that can help make a difference to people. Ask your child what kindness is. What do they think a small act of kindness is? e.g. being kind to others or sharing. Ask them to think of a time when they have carried out a small act of kindness or someone has done so to them. How did they feel? Why do you think small acts of kindness make people happy? e.g. tidying up without being asked, saying thank you, giving someone a hug, helping someone with something etc. You can also bring in the 'reverse advent calendars' that we carried out in school as well or even the 'suspended coffee' scheme some cafes do for those in need. I want the children to create small acts of kindness cards that can be used each day. They may choose to do 14- one each day of the Easter holidays, or as many as they want to and can think of. The idea is they write these acts on a piece of paper or card and put them in a jar or box, to pick one out each day. They could make the cards  as creative or colourful as they want or just write sentences or key words. It is important they understand that these acts of kindness should not cost money. You may choose to record how many acts of kindness are carried out in a tally or as a bar graph or as a sticker chart. Some ideas may include-
smile at 5 people today
ask someone to join a game
help to tidy the house
write a letter to a friend or family member
give someone a compliment
make a special effort to say thank you
draw a picture for someone
say thank you in a different language 6 times in a day
help a friend or family member with something they find tricky
These are just a few, discuss with your child some of their own ideas. Remember it is one a day for however long you wish. I would love to hear about and see some of these.

Random Acts of Kindness Printables - Five Marigolds60 Random Acts of Kindness for Kids | Feels Like Home™

Daily Welsh
Teach your family members some of the basic Welsh e.g. the colours/ numbers/ weather and help them with how to say it! You may choose to create your own little school for this where you are the teacher and your family are the pupils. I would love to see some videos of this if you do it!

Enjoy
Mrs. Hassall

Year One: Thursday 2nd April 2020

I hope you are all staying safe and well. It's very strange not seeing you all but I hope you're doing a little bit at home and enjoying having time with your families. The weather is still fine which is always good, so make sure you get outside in the garden and make the most of the fresh air. I can see from the work you have been sharing that you have been doing lots of lovely things outside. I am really enjoying seeing your work, it does make me smile.

RWInc  continue to have live lessons via YouTube so they will help us keep our ‘sounds on the boil’ whilst we are at home.  These will take place daily and can be located via the following link:

 https://youtube.com/channel/UCo7fbLgY2oA_cFCIg9GdxtQ…

Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am and again at 12.30 pm

Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am and again at 1.00 pm

Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30 am and again at 1.30 pm

Note: films won’t be available at other times

Daily Lessons that have already been shown will be repeated over the Easter Break excluding Bank Holidays.

They also have Poetry Time on Youtube at 2pm each day, they are also available afterwards.

Literacy:

Today we will make a collection of nouns and adjectives about Spring and Eastertime. You can record this in the books you brought home from school or using J2e5 via Just2easy via Hwb. You may like to go outside and identify signs of Spring that you can name.....You may like to use the Encyclopedia Britannica which is available via Hwb as a starting point for your safe search into Easter and Springtime. Some fun facts maybe found at  http://www.fun-facts.org.uk/holidays/easter.

Your challenge today is to find out why we often give eggs to each other at Easter Time- good luck, enjoy your research.

Easter Challenge: I’ve saved an Easter Challenge in our files section (Hwb Classroom) that you might like to complete. The first activity would be useful to complete as it is a text about Easter followed by some questions linked to the text. Please don’t worry about printing out- I know that printers, paper and ink maybe a challenge at the moment!

Reading: We are mindful that you will have read your reading book by now but don’t forget to read a book if you have one at home or listen to a story read by someone in your home. You can also access books (inc RWInc Books) via www.oxfordowl.co.uk (the home section). You will need to log-on but the e-books can be accessed for free.

Numeracy:

Today please find in the Year 1 Hwb Class folder a resource helping us look at counting in 10s. The focus is on counting arrays of 10. https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/year-1/ (Week 2 lesson 2)

This does not need to be printed out and stuck in your book, only if wish/ are able to.
To challenge yourself try and count objects from around the home or garden.

Bronze: count orally in ten’s

Silver: Count in tens and record as we would in x10 table (e.g. 1x10=  )

Gold: Count objects in groups of 2 and 5 (How many groups of 2 will have a total of 10 objects?)

Health & Well Being:

Today is our PE lesson so start with Joe Wicks (@thebodycoach)  at 9.am  on YouTube. A great way to start the day for all the family.

We have used the MiniMeYoga cards in our lessons before I’ve included 4 here to ensure we remain balanced. Try and teach someone in your home the positions, so they learn a new skill too. We would love to see some pictures especially if you manage to do them outside in the fresh air! Enjoy our favourite Tickle Toes!!

Finish with some Mindful Colouring!

Year 6 Wednesday 1st April 2020

Good morning,

I hope you are well and staying safe at home.  I'm so impressed with the learning you are sending me - keep it up.  Your activities for today will be available on Google Classroom from 9am.  Also remember to do 10 minutes everyday of spelling journal activities and 10 minutes of times tables e.g. using J2E TTBlast or Hit the Button.  It would be great if you could also complete some handwriting activities writing three interesting sentences in your neatest handwriting, this could be about your pets or your hobbies. Also remember Mrs Peacock is uploading daily welsh activities each day on Google Classroom for you to have a go with - maybe you can teach someone else in your family!

Here is a brief outline of the activities today, as always there is a more detailed explanation on Google Classroom including examples and website links.

Literacy - to create a Persuasive poster for your Easter Product.
Numeracy - to complete weighing activities using grams and kilograms.
Topic - to design a poster illustrating what we are grateful for.

You can complete these activities online or in your learning books - just let me know by sending a comment to me when you hand it in - I can then look at your learning which I love seeing. Also some of you are sending pictures of the activities you have completed - thank you, I really enjoy seeing how you are doing at home.

Enjoy the activities today and let me know how you get on.

Take care and stay safe and well.

Year 4

Year 4 1.4.20

Welcome to our Wednesday learning!

As normal for us now, the literacy and numeracy are on google classroom for you.  For numeracy you will be dividing by 10.  You can complete your answers on a new google docs or in your book, which ever is easier for you.

For literacy you will be gathering ideas for a spring themed poem using personification.

We have really enjoyed seeing the circuits and art you have created outside – some of you are even involving the whole family!  This is a great way to keep yourself calm and happy.

Today – try and think of five things you are thankful for at the moment. I am sure there are many more than that but pick your top five.

Suggested spelling activity for today is bubble letters. Write your spelling in your best handwriting then afterwards write it in bubble letters.

Take care and stay safe,

Mrs Maunder and Mrs Phillips.
