Reception Class 23.3.20
To the Parents and children of Reception Class.
I hope you have managed a little walk in the sunshine and enjoyed Mother's Day, tinged with a little sadness for those who couldn't visit their mums.
I will set out some activities everyday that you can record in their books that were sent home. I will try to provide family and practical things as I'm aware of working parents and the pressure you are under. Please just do what you can, your child will recover educationally. I will set Read Write Inc activities daily which if you can do and record in their books. Your child is aware of which group they are in. I've just noticed RWI lessons will be on YouTube daily and repeated in the afternoon. You can find this by just going to YouTube and typing Ruth Miskin RWI. There will be live RWI sessions.
Mrs Garbit's group is Speed set 2 sounds- 10.am and repeated at 1.00pm
Mrs Miles group and Mrs Evans group is Speed set 1 sounds- 9.30am and repeated at 12.30pm.
Also there are life PE lessons with Joe Wicks at 9.am daily on YouTube. That might be good for all the family.
Literacy
Mrs Garbit's Group.Sounds-ay (ay may I play), ee (what can you see), igh (fly high) and ow (ow blow the snow). The children have learnt these sounds so perhaps you could make some flash cards with some of these words on. For eg. tray, three, sigh and throw. Try to encourage your child to fred in their head. (That means sound out in their head), and then say the word. Then say the word for your child to write it in their books. If they get it wrong, support them to write correctly. Do 1 sound daily with 4 words and 1 recap sound. So for eg 4 ay words on Monday. Then 4 ee words on Tuesday with 1 ay word. Then Wednesday, 4 igh words and 1 ee word. Then finally dictate this sentence several times- I use different voices!. Can I play with you? Remind your child to use a capital letter at the beginning, tall, short letters, finger spaces and a full stop at the end. Then support your child to write down the sentence. Mark together.
Mrs Evans group.Sounds- th sh, qu and ch. Perhaps you can make some flash cards with words that have these sounds. For eg. think, shop, queen and chop. Make up about 3 words for each sound. Go through the words, encouraging you child to Fred in their head (that means sound out in their head), and then say the word. Then say the word for your child to write it in their books. If they get it wrong, support them to write correctly. Do 1 sound daily with 4 words and 1 recap sound? So for e.g. 3 th words on Monday. Then 3 sh words on Tuesday with 1 th word. Then Wednesday, 4 qu words and 1 sh word. Then finally dictate this sentence several times- I use different voices! Sit on a mat. Remind your child to use a capital letter at the beginning, tall, short letters, finger spaces and a full stop at the end. Then support your child to write down the sentence. Mark together.
Mrs Miles group. Recap all initial sounds. This is really important. Then blend and read these words-Word time 3- bin, can, cat and back. Then dictate one word at a time and encourage your child to write it down. Mark together. Please support your child to form letters correctly with the handwriting sheet that they should have in their sound folders.
I know this seems a lot of detail but it's the first online lesson. Hopefully you can refer back to this information for future lessons. I won't then need to include so much detail. Just do you best and I know you will.
Numeracy
Perhaps you could gather together a bank of 1p, 2p, 5p and 10p coins. Then throughout the day your child can buy an apple for their snack at 2p. Then a drink will be 5p. If you get in the habit of doing this daily, they will soon be able to identify different coins.
All Children. Pay for snacks and drinks using 1p and 2p coins.
Most Children. Pay for snacks and drinks using 2p and 5p coins.
Challenge. Use all coins and begin to understand that two 5p coins is the same as 10p and one 5p and two 2p and one 1p coin is the same as 10p.
Topic. Play eye spy in the garden.
In their books they can draw a picture of some of the things they can see and try to spell the word or just use an initial sound. For eg. d for daffodil
Good luck and do what you can. If you can, try to get a bit of a routine going that suits your family. Keep up with the reading and as time goes on I will give some high frequency words to support reading. If you need to contact me, my email address is- MilesD8@hwbmail.net. Thank you and keep yourselves safe.
