I hope you are all well and keeping safe at home. I am starting to upload learning opportunities onto google classroom which most of you accessed before school closed. If you weren't and are unsure of what to do them please send me an email on HWB and I will send out a simple guide to support your learning. I understand that many parents may be working from home and need the use of a laptop or computer so I am also trying to include ideas which don't necessarily need you to access the internet to complete so there should be a variety of things to do. Each day will include Literacy, Numeracy with a bronze, silver or gold challenge to complete along with one other topic, which could be in the form of a project to complete in stages over a week. I will automatically receive an email for any work 'turned in' on google classroom and there is also the option to send me or the class messages about the work to support each other.
Along side google classroom work maybe set using Mymaths, Read Theory and Big Maths. (Please note that the password for mymaths ends in a k and not a h - sorry). Pupils have log in details although can email me if unsure. They should also have exercise books which can be utilized for completing any work to share at a later date.
Mymaths – I will set activities in the usual way for the children to complete. They can also look at the online lessons which are extremely useful and we often use these in class before completing other tasks. You can complete the activities more than once and access any activity previously set to recap. There are also many games your child can access.
Big Maths - will be used on a Friday only. These challenges can only be accessed once a week so please only complete on a Friday. Children are used to doing these weekly, one activity is timed where the other two challenges are completed at their own pace - they can also use pen and paper to work out the answers if needed.
Read Theory – This is for reading comprehension. Pupils haven't used this is class this year so far but may have in previous years. Pupils will carry out a short assessment to begin which will then set the level type questions based on pieces of writing. The work will be automatically saved.
Please don't hesitate to ask for help and I will do the best to answer any questions and keep in touch with my year 6 children during this worrying time. I will do my very best to reply to emails sent during the school day and support learning wherever possible.
Take care all,
Mrs Cotton
