Wednesday 17th July year 1

This is my last post on Hwb so I would just like to say that it has been a privilege to teach your children the past year and thank you for the well wishes that have been sent my way. It has been my first class that I have had all the way through and I could not have asked for better students. So, thank you for the hard work you all have put in to see them become such caring and hardworking individuals.

BBC bitesize will still be uploading work for a couple more weeks if you want to access some lessons over the summer holidays for your children and role playing games similar to the English activity I have planned today offer great English and Maths opportunities in a fun game format.

Maths Half past.

We shall use https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zmpsm39 to help us look at half past times.

English

This week we have been having story adventures or interactive stories. I would like you to have a go at creating your own interactive stories. The learners create their own character and you act as the story teller. A easy gateway is to just pick a popular children’s tale and swap the hero for your children’s character. Read the story and stop to ask what your child will do and change the story accordingly.  Here is a short video of children playing a role playing game called DND to give you an idea. (you don’t need to use dice or miniatures.) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jcYJfbR9cGM . If you enjoy role playing games there are official Role Playing Games for young children out there. (hero kids is 1 example) but it can be just as fun to make up your own rules.

  • Bronze. Draw your own character. It can be anything you want it to be. (hero, goblin, unicorn ETC)
  • Silver. Name your character and give it an ability. Maybe it is really strong or fast. Maybe it can invent gadgets or it can fly.
  • Gold. Give your character 3 personality traits. My character is clumsy, honest and loves collecting pinecones.

Complete your soothe box by adding whatever you would like. Remember these things should be what makes you happy. As a challenge I would like you to include at least 1 item that makes each one of your 5 senses happy.. For taste it could be your favourite sweet, smell could be a flower or candle ECT.

  •  Bronze. Add some items that soothe and make you happy.
  • Silver. Can you add 1 thing for each of your 5 senses? (Taste, smell, touch, sight and sound)
  • Gold. What are the things you added and why?

All the best,

Mr Carbis and the year 1 team.
