Year One- 16th July 2020

End of Term Trip

Traditionally towards the end of term we have a summer trip. In recent years we have visited Barry Island to spend some time on the beach, have 'sandy sandwiches' and dip our toes in the water!

Today we are going on our Virtual Trip to the beach. Don't forget your lunch and a drink, to put your suntan lotion on, bring a sun hat and of course a raincoat- just in case! Have you got a bucket and spade to help with your digging and building of some super castles?

I wonder if you can complete the scavenger hunt from your home? This is a real challenge but I'm sure you can find some of the items to help you to create your own 'Trellech Beach'

Think about the journey...we really enjoy a coach trip with our friends- think about what you will on the way? Who will you sit by? What will you talk about? Will you sing your favourite song- what would it be? How are you feeling on the way? Play some games to pass the time such as 'eye spy, counting objects, hangman etc..

Walking to the beach

When you get off the 'bus' how do you feel? What can you smell? What can you hear? What is the first thing you see? Don't forget to bring all your items from the bus- you'll need your lunch!

At the beach

Imagine the beach, how does it feel? What is the first thing you do? When you paddle in the water, how does it feel on your feet? When you play in the sand, what do you build?

Use your senses what can you hear, see, feel, taste and smell?

Can you create some sand art,  beach pictures using paint or collage materials.

Sometimes we have a little treat from the ice cream parlour....what would your choice of ice cream be?

Describe your ice cream using some powerful adjectives to tantalize our taste buds!

Challenge yourself to create your own treat perfect for the beach.

Whilst at the beach, we will access the Sport Wales Play to Learn Activities once again. In our class folder in Hwb you will find our story linked to this set of activities called 'The Beach Party'.

There you can also find an activity to carry out at the level you feel is most accessible for you. (Bronze, Silver and Gold). Today 'Spot to spot' will help us to become stronger and more agile, move with increasing confidence and physical control, work safely with others and cooperate in solving problems when working with others.

Finish your trip with some mindful colouring. See our files for some seaside mindful colouring activities that you can use and imagine the sound of the sea as you complete them.

In the class folders you will find a range of resources that you can access now or over the summer linked to the seaside.

This week we see the final week of 'Children's Art Week'. In 2020, Children's Art Week will take place online, at home and in schools across three weeks in June and July. Each week will focus on a special theme. This week the theme is: Literacy and Creative Writing Whether through shared activities, letter writing or creative activities that focus on a historical event.

Today we are going to focus on the Postcards from Morecombe to .https://engage.org/happenings/postcards-from-morecambe/ In the past tourists flooded to Morecambe for a seaside holiday, 1,220,638 postcards were sent to the holiday maker's loved ones in 1931. Design and write a postcard to send to a loved one you haven't seen in a while.
