Year One: Thursday 9th July

Literacy and Science & Technology

Year 1 and Year 2 will continue the last two sessions with Colette from The Wye & Usk Foundation. Your activities from the sessions have been wonderful, so today we will take part in session 5. All the activities can be found at: https://www.wyeuskfoundation.org/education

Session 5: The Food Chains- What We Eat!

Rivers are wonderful but they can be dangerous places, so you need to THINK SAFETY and NEVER go near water on your own.

Healthy rivers are home to lots of wonderful wildlife, all of which is linked together by food chains.

All the creatures, predators, prey and grazers in the river all have to find food to survive, every living thing is there can be somebody's meal!

You will need: Paper, Pens and a look at the video clip (https://youtu.be/43TlCe_M11U)

Draw and label your own river food chain.

Name 2 predators of salmon in the river?

Write or record or tell a grown up a sentence that describes a river food chain and uses the word "prey" in it?

Imagine that you are a creature in the river …. write/record, act out or draw a diary entry which describes one day in your life.

Think about where in the river you live, how you move, how you find your food and how you avoid getting eaten.

RWInc will continue to have live lessons via YouTube so they will help us keep our 'sounds on the boil' whilst we are at home.  These will take place daily and can be located via the following link:

Speed Sounds 1,  2 and 3 are now being repeated so please allow a moment at the start of the lesson to allow them to reload.

Numeracy

Today we are going to focus on finding amounts of moneySome of us are challenging ourselves to these questions in our platinum challenges on a Friday.

We know our coins up to 20p so now we are going to challenge ourselves to find total amounts using these coins. Please find within our class folder a powerpoint that will help you with the strategies to find the total amounts.

The best way to complete this activity is by having your own 'shop'. Can you label items to buy and purchase them using real coins up to and including 20p. Make sure you give the right money to your shop keeper!

Bronze: identify coins to 20p

Silver: Find amounts of money up to 20p

Gold: Find total of amounts of money up to 50p

Upload your evidence to your Just2Easy folder.

       Humanities & Well Being

Important to have a healthy mind so make sure you try some yoga, do an online workout, complete the Daily Mile or go for a good walk. Important for our bodies but also our minds.

Today we will access the Sport Wales Play to Learn Activities once again. In our class folder in Hwb you will find our story linked to this set of activities called 'The Beach Party'.

There you can also find an activity to carry out at the level you feel is most accessible for you. (Bronze, Silver and Gold). Today 'Pebble Plop' will help us to choose a variety objects to throw and challenging targets to throw at,  sort the objects and targets into categories and make a scoring system that reflects these categories, throw from a further distance throw in a variety of ways, e.g. from a different level or by facing a different direction, etc. and  aim at difficult targets on the wall or on a higher level

This week we see the launch of 'Children's Art Week'. In 2020, Children's Art Week will take place online, at home and in schools across three weeks in June and July.
