Reception Home Learning 11.5.20

Reception Class Monday 11th May

To the Parents and children of Reception Class.

I hope you all had a lovely bank holiday weekend and took some time out to relax. Thank you for sharing with me the lovely things you made and how you celebrated such an important day in history.

"We need to stop just pulling people out of the river.

We need to go upstream and find out why they're falling in."

Desmond Tutu

Now back to some serious learning!

Literacy

Please encourage your child to write this sentence down and mark together,

Don't forget the- high frequency words. Perhaps learn 3 or 4 a week and just keep recapping.

I  go  come  went  a  was  look  there  are  we  and  me  like  going  she  they  my  see  on  away  this  play  no  yes  for  can  he  am  all  you  said  to  day  there

Numeracy

Quick fire mental maths- Doubles to 10. Number bonds to 10.

Weight

All Children- Introduce language- heavier/est, lighter/est. Get 4 cans of different weights. Allow your child to explore and decide which is the heaviest, lightest? Can you arrange from lightest to heaviest? Perhaps you could have a can that is smaller but heavier. How can we find out which can is the heaviest? Encourage your child to find the weight on the can. In some cases these numbers might be too challenging for your child to read.

Most Children- As above but use more items. Can you arrange heaviest to lightest. Check your answer by weighing them. Were you correct?

Challenge- Collect 5 items and arrange them as 2 lighter, 2 heavier and 1 in the middle. Check your answer. Can you read the weight on the can?

Topic

To identify familiar smells

Talk about smells. What part of the body do we smell with? Discuss favourite smells, nasty smells, smells that remind us of people or places, smells that warn us of danger. Perhaps over the week you can encourage your child to close their eyes and identify familiar smells- toothpaste, vinegar, flowers, soap etc.

Please don't get too close to the substances as not to inhale.

Create an obstacle course.

Do this together as a family. Decide together if you have to go over, under, around etc. Who can complete the quickest? How can we make the course easier or more of a challenge?

Weekly Welsh

Create a welsh poem about food (bwyd). For example-

Bwyd, bwyd, bwyd

Dw i'n hoffi bwyd

Dw i'n hoffi afal

Dw i'n hoffi oren

Dw i'n hoffi mefus

Dw i'n hoffi bwyd

You can make this more challenging by using adjectives. For eg. bananas melyn, mefus coch.
