English-Describe your own setting

 

Now that we have looked at settings we shall have a go at creating our own. It might be useful having the settings checklist open so that learners know what a good settings description includes.

 

•       Bronze. Pick one or two of the setting description options saved in the settings sub folder. Write 3 sentences about this setting using the words available.

•       Silver. Take a favourite book or cartoon and switch the setting to a different one. Turn sleeping beauty and put it in a rocket ship or whatever you like. Can you describe this setting?

•       Gold. Use the setting checklist to double check you have included all that you need to make a great setting.

 

Maths- Practice times tables

 

We are going to use a game called funky mummy to practice counting with the 5 X table and the 2 X table. You may want to use/recreate the visual aid of socks and handprints to help them. http://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/funkyMummy/index.html

 

•       Bronze. Use the times table option and do one at a time

•       Silver. Use the times table option and click both 2 and 5 times table.

•       Gold. Can you spot the numbers that appear in both times tables? Write them down. Can they spot the pattern.

 

Topic-Cress investigation

 

The final activity of the cress investigation. We shall look at how the cress has grown. The results sheet is saved into the topic folder.

 

•       Bronze. Select which one of the growing categories that each cress container has.

•       Silver. Draw/take a picture of the cress and label the parts with a brief description. (weak, yellow stem, no growth, full healthy growth. Strong white roots etc.)

•       Gold. Which one has grown the best and why? Try to write using full sentences using what you know of plants. (They need light for food, soil for their roots ETC).
