Year 2 Monday 13 July 2020

can't believe this is the last week of a very different summer term and also Year 2! How time has flown!

Literacy
To understand story structure
Using BBC's daily lesson here, the children will look at how stories are made up and how they're broken into beginning, middle and end. Before completing chat to your child about what a story tells us e.g. characters/ plot/ setting etc. Think about what sort of information we might find out or need to know at the start? set the scene? introduce characters? It is important they know that the beginning must not have any of the main action in. We often talk about how stories need a build up, a problem and a resolution. Then move onto the middle. This is where the action/ adventure happens. This is where the problem happens. Then the ending is where we find out if the problem is resolved or not. We use the 'iceberg or mountain' diagram for this with the build up/ peak/ then come back down. Work through the activities and explanations on the link found here. This week you will be planning and writing/ up-levelling your own story thinking carefully about the structure of your story.

Maths
To tell the time to the nearest 5 minutes
We have covered this in school including digital time and I was really impressed with how some of you picked it up so quickly. One thing to remember with time is it is all about practice and using it- the more you do, the easier it will be. Try to spend this week in particular, looking and telling the time as often as possible. Use the BBC daily lesson here. Remember to recap the language associated with time first- past/ to/ o'clock/ half past/ quarter past/ quarter to etc. What xtable does it use? 5! Which side is past and which is to etc.

Topic
To explore and investigate bubbles
Using the BBC daily lesson here, https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/zkf796f
you will observe/ investigate and make bubbles! Before starting think about what is a bubble? Make a prediction and write it down. Why do you think bubbles happen? Why do they pop? What makes them bigger or smaller or float? What materials are best for the best bubbles?  Remember to record your prediction/ what you found out. I would love to see some photos/ videos of your bubbles!

Please also complete this link with your child if you haven't already done so- it is linked to feedback with regards to distance/ online learning.
