Year 2 Wednesday 24 June 2020

Literacy/ Topic
To read and understand a story and complete activities
Using the Sport Wales Play to learn resource, children will read the story 'Megan and the baby dragon.' This can be found on the Year 2 shared folder on HWB. Before reading it, predict what will happen in the story just from the title and picture. Let the children read the story aloud- some words they may need help on. Remember to use your sounds to sound out. Then read it a second time discussing what has happened. Was your prediction correct? Once you have read the story and are confident with it, there are 2 activities on the Year 2 shared folder on HWB ( each have 3 activity cards) You may decide to choose ' Dragon dance' or 'shape shifting'  and complete the activities from one particular set. It looks at developing key movement skills linked to PE/ movement/ dance. You may decide to do them both. I would love to see some videos of any dragon dances you do.

Maths
To revise addition and subtraction
Recap what addition and subtraction are and what they mean including different names for them e.g. add/ total/ plus/more than/take away/ minus/ less than/difference. Complete a few sums to practice. On the Year 2 shared folder on HWB are the examples from previous work when looking at subtracting with number lines or the column method. On the Year 2 shared folder on HWB are some challenge cards linked to addition and subtraction. These will help your child to apply their skills and knowledge.
There is also a number bond puzzle should you wish to complete it on the Year 2 shared folder on HWB. Matching parts of a triangle to their number bon match of either 10 or 100.

Enjoy the sunshine and outdoors- you may decide to make up a game/ read a book/ do some drawing or even some yoga or meditation. You could also set up your own stall selling fruit / drinks or ice cream to your family members- working out the costs and giving change as well customer service skills!

Enjoy!
Mrs. Hassall
