Literacy
To plan and write a short story
This will be your literacy work for today and tomorrow. Trellech have tweeted this activity and it is a challenge set via Monmouthshire Libraries. It is a 150 word story and the story line must start and open with- The sudden noise made me jump!
Please send your entries to the email address on the tweet if you wish to enter. Take some time to first think of planning your ideas. What type of story will you write? What characters will you have? Where will it be set? 150 words isn't long so it must only be short. You may choose to type this so you can easily count the words! It would be really lovely if you did enter your stories, however you don't have to. I look forward to reading them!

Maths
To plot and read coordinates and to draw a map
What are coordinates? we have done this before but the children may need reminding. What are maps? Why are they useful? Why are coordinates useful? Remind the children we go along the corridor- across the bottom and up the stairs- then up in order to read and write a coordinate. They are presented like this (4,2) for example. The 4 is the number across the bottom and the 2 is how many up they need to go. Work through the Zoo coordinates on the Year 2 shared folder on HWB. These are differentiated. We have also completed this in school a while back but there is no harm in the children completing it again to ensure they are familiar. Once you have done that, draw a map of your house/ grounds. You will need this to complete your activity tomorrow. It is up to you if you want to draw it on squared paper with coordinates- which can be found on the Year 2 shared folder on HWB. Or if you want to draw it on plain paper with no coordinates. Once you have drawn your map, have a go at using it to see if it is accurate and landmarks are in the right place e.g. shed/ trampoline/ greenhouse etc.
There is also a nature activity linked to measuring if you want to do it for fun! It asks you to find different objects of different lengths. It says cubes- but class this as cm.

Topic
To design and make a woodland animal
This will be your topic work for today and tomorrow. You can make this in whatever form/ material you like. It would be nice if they could be 3d if you have access to the materials. Take some time to plan your ideas including the materials and colours you will need. You may decide to paint and turn a  pebble into an animal, you may have an old plant pot you could use, you may have some boxes, you may use toilet paper tubes, egg boxes, eggs, you may do paper mâché etc. It is entirely up you. This is something you could do whilst enjoying the weather in the garden! I look forward to seeing them!

Enjoy!
