English/Topic-Own fact file

Using the bat fact file as a template they create their own fact file on an animal they decide.

  •          Bronze (Topic). Use Wikipedia or YouTube to research an animal of your choice.
  • ·         Bronze. Use the same subtitles to describe where your animal lives, what it eats and at least 1 interesting fact.
  • ·         Silver (Topic). Use videos and search engines. Which do you find easier?
  • ·         Silver. Use bullet points to create a list of facts.
  • ·         Gold (Topic). Can you create a video clip of your fact file? You could use a style similar to Sir David Attenborough. (Youtube has free episdoes uploaded by Netflix, see link for 1 episode. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9PeYPHdpNohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r9PeYPHdpNo
  • ·         Gold. Include whether the animal is endangered and how best to protect the animal if so

Maths-groups, lots and finding totals

Today we want to reinforce the terms groups, lots and totals to the learners and get them to recognise basic rules and patterns in multiplication, we will use a big maths powerpoint called I can find the total amount of toys, found in the maths folder, to help us. I would suggest the children recreate the powerpoint using their own toys and resources using the terminology of groups and lots as a support.

  •          Bronze. Recreate the powerpoint labelled I can find the total amount of toys and get used to the term groups and lots. On each part ask the learner. How many are there in the group? How many lots are there? What about now?  For the first slide we start with 1 lot of a group of 3 and goes up to 4 lots of groups of 3.
  •          Silver. Can the children explain what a group and a lot is to you? Move on to working out the totals.
  •          Gold. Using the array (see the link) to show the relationship between groups and lots. Eg if you had 3 lots of 4 or 4 lots of 3 you would still have the same number of tiles. Is this always true? https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/arrayDisplay/index.html
