Reception Class Monday 20th April
To the Parents and children of Reception Class.
I hope you are all well and have managed to have some relaxation and fun in the sunshine. Today I will begin with recapping some previous sounds. I will leave the information about online support for RWI sessions, just as a reminder.
I hope you have found the RWI live sessions helpful. After the Easter break, there will be word time and spelling lessons added, so that will be really helpful. Also they are releasing a poem at 2.00pm everyday on YouTube. These are aimed at Reception and Year 1 children. They have said they will add PDFs of the poems to their website soon.
Resources-If you login to the Read Write Inc site, phonics page on Oxford Owl for Home. You will need to login or register to access an eBook library. You can then access

Literacy
Mrs Garbett's group
Recap sounds- ay ee igh oo (look at a book), and oo (poo at the zoo).
Hopefully you will have made some flashcards with some of the words with these sounds on. When you show the f/c to your child, encourage them to identify special friends (for eg. ay). Then sound the letters out in their head and say the word. If you child cannot do this, then you can support your child to sound it out and then repeat the word several times. Repeat this with all the words that contain the sounds above. After a few recaps you can say the word for your child to write down. Do this with these 5 words or make up your own – say, see, night, book and moon. Mark together. Remember to use tall and short letters, (they are not all the same size). Tall letters should touch the top of the line and small letters half way. If you can see your child forming letters incorrectly, just practise a line of one of them. Dictate this sentence several times and then encourage your child to write it down- The wing of a moth in the pot. Mark together and write out again if it needs to be corrected. If you can see your child forming letters incorrectly, just practise a line of one of them. I know some of the sentences seem a bit strange, but it's from the book they would be using in school which is called The Spell.
Mrs Evans group.
Recap sounds- ch, sh, qu, ng and nk.
Practise the sounds above using flash cards with the words- chop, shut, quiz, thing and sink. Encourage your child to identify the special friends first, as this will help them to sound out the word. If you child cannot read the word, help them to sound it out and repeat several times. Then encourage your child to write the words down. Mark together. Remember to use tall and short letters, (they are not all the same size). Tall letters should touch the top of the line and small letters half way. If you can see your child forming letters incorrectly, just practise a line of one of them. Dictate this sentence several times and then encourage your child to write it down- I can swim and run. Mark together.
Word Time 5
Recap- All initial sounds. Keep a check of what they know and what they don't, so you can add an extra sound in each day.
Recap previous words- met, fun, log, hit, set, let, fish, ship, hit and lip. If your child cannot say one of these words, you say the word in Fred Talk for your child to decipher what you have said. So for eg. say m a t. Then say the word for your child to write down. Mark together. Please support your child to form letters correctly with the handwriting sheet that they should have in their sound folders.
Numeracy
Counting and days of the week. (This activity can be done over the whole week).
Sing a song counting back from 10. For eg. 10 green bottles, 10 sausages sizzling in the pan etc. Read a story book which has days of the week, for eg. The very Hungary caterpillar by Eric Carle or Mr Wolf's Week by Colin Hawkins. If you don't have 1 of these books then just make up a story using the days of the week. Talk about what happened each day, then say the days of the week in order. What day is it today? What day is it tomorrow? What day was it yesterday? Make some flash cards with the days of the week. Put the days of the week in order and point out how they all end in day.
All Children-By the end of the week, be able to order the days of the week orally.
Most- Keep a diary over the week. Draw a picture of something you did and write the correct day underneath.
Challenge- By the end of the week be able to order the days of the week using the flash cards. Talk about what you did yesterday and what you would like to do tomorrow.
Let's do a bit of Yoga
Aeroplane.
· Prepare to fly- Stand with feel parallel and under hips.
· Lift off and balance- Breathe, focus and stretch 1 leg.
· I climb into the sky- Tip forward until you are parallel with the floor.
· I soar on open wings-Spread your arms out like wings.
· If you could fly, where would you go and would you fly alone or with a friend?
· Think of something that makes your heart soar and hold the thought as you try the pose again.
Topic/Creative
I will keep this quite simple and go down the nature/health and wellbeing theme.
Perhaps on your daily exercise you can find some small twigs that have fallen on the floor. Can you make a wizard or fairies wand? Paint it or stick natural objects on it. Make it as colourful as you like. Perhaps you can dress up to use your wand. What would you do first if you had magical powers? Draw a picture of yourself and the wand. Perhaps you could help your child to write what they would do. If I had a wand, I would……….. Or you could write it and your child copy underneath.
Welsh
You could use these phrases to ask for snacks and drinks.
Ga i'r ……….os gwelwch yn dda? (Please, may I have ………).
Dyma ti. (Here you are).
Diolch yn fawr. (Thank you very much).
Croeso. (Your welcome).
Cei/Na chei. (Yes, you may/No, you may not.
