I hope settling back into the home learning wasn't too stressful for you all! Remember to just do what you can. Most of the lessons set will be from the BBC Bitesize daily lessons to make it easier for you all- hopefully this will allow for more independent learning from your child as a lot of the videos/ tasks are all on one web page to access. I would also be grateful of any feedback linking to these BBC Bitesize lessons and how you are finding them. I will of course adapt depending on your feedback!
Literacy
To write a diary entry
To draw characters
Watch the video on when and how to use question marks https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zpbbkqt/articles/z7b72sg
Yesterday you would have watched the video about The Faraway Tree, if not you can access it again on the link above. Watch the video- you may like to watch it again.
In the story there are four children called Joe, Beth, Franny and Rick. They love going to the Magic Faraway Tree because they always have so much fun there. Write a question for each of the four children asking them something about the tree. You can do this verbally or you can write it down.
- Use words like: what, did, does, have and where to start your questions.
- Don't forget your question marks.
You have a choice of activities for today.
Drawing characters- In the story 'The Magic Faraway Tree' we heard about characters such as: Dame Washalot, Silky the Fairy, Moonface and The Saucepan Man. Using their names, draw what you think they would each look like. Once you've drawn them, next to each character, write one question you wish you could ask them.
Diary entry- Imagine you have been on an adventure to The Faraway Tree and you want to write a diary entry about it. You can watch the video again and make some notes about the things you want to include in your diary. Your diary entry will need to include:
Bronze
- a greeting like 'Dear Diary' or 'To Diary'
- a description of the tree (what it looked like, how it felt to be there)
- who you met (what were their names and what did they look like)
Silver
- a greeting like 'Dear Diary' or 'To Diary'
- a description of the tree (what it looked like, how it felt to be there)
- who you met (what were their names and what did they look like)
- what questions you asked whilst there (remember to include question marks)
- a closing like 'Got to go now' or 'time for me to go'
Gold
- a greeting like 'Dear Diary' or 'To Diary'
- a description of the tree (what it looked like, how it felt to be there)
- who you met (what were their names and what did they look like)
- what questions you asked whilst there (remember to include question marks)
- information about what you did and how you felt
- a closing like 'Got to go now' or 'time for me to go'
Maths
To count in 2/5/10
Yesterday you would have added 1 more than and subtracted 1 less than. Now you will do the same but counting in 2/5/10 instead of 1's. Just like yesterday recap counting in these number sequences- remember it is your timetables. Start from various numbers, try going forwards and backwards.
This activity here has its own bronze/ silver/ gold levels within it. I would say it probably is suited most to a general silver or gold level activity. https://bam.files.bbci.co.uk/bam/live/content/zvs8d6f/pdf#sa-link_location=blocks&intlink_from_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bbc.co.uk%2Fbitesize%2Farticles%2Fznywjhv&intlink_ts=1587387097450-sa
Bronze- using a number square which can be accessed here-
https://content.twinkl.co.uk/resource/a5/bf/t-n-016-100-square-hundred-square_ver_5.pdf?__token__=exp=1587387718~acl=%2Fresource%2Fa5%2Fbf%2Ft-n-016-100-square-hundred-square_ver_5.pdf%2A~hmac=d7aadfbfc82054afb78ef3531cab27c5597fe6b8c1d963464834cac3c22848b3 have 3 copies. One for 2, 5, and 10. Using a coloured pencil, shade the numbers counting in each of the sequences. e.g. on one number square shade all the numbers counting in 2's, etc then on another do the same for all the numbers counting in 5's.
Alternatively use this online version using different colours for each number sequence.
https://www.topmarks.co.uk/learning-to-count/paint-the-squares If you are confident with counting in 2/5/10 from any given number both forwards and backwards, try doing it with counting in 3's.
Topic
To learn about the four countries in the UK
Watch the videos and read through the information given on the BBC page.
https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/articles/z42pnrd Bronze- Complete activities 1 and 2. They are some fun activities to double check your child's understanding of what has been read/ watched.
Silver/ Gold- Complete activities 1 and 2. They are some fun activities to double check your child's understanding of what has been read/ watched. You may also want to look at creating a poster/ fact file for each of the 4 countries within the UK including facts about them- you may wish to do this on the computer or on paper. You may even choose to do a video recording or animation.
Enjoy
