The purpose of life is to give it away."

Matching letters

This activity to complete over the week.

With the bottle top letters, can you match the first letter of your christian and surname (capital letters), with small case letters? Can you do the same with your family members? Try to keep this activity on the boil as it's really helpful in identifying capitals letters when writing sentences. Can you build up to matching all small case letters with capitals?

Numeracy

How many More? Partitioning

The aim is for your child to recognise pairs of numbers that total 5, 6 and 7 without having to add these numbers together by counting on. They should recognise these numbers as special pairs which can be added together either way. So 3+2=5 and 2+3=5. In some activities, the total is written before the equals sign. It is important that your child sees that both sides of the equals sign must balance rather than seeing the equals sign as the que for an answer. This will help with missing number additions. 6+-=7  5+-=7

All Children- We will start with some easy numbers to begin with. Using some resources such as- marbles, pebbles, lego, pencils etc. Place on the floor in a straight line a pile of 3, 5, 4, 2 and 1. Encourage your child to find how many more to make 5. Your child will probably need to count on to begin with. Repeat several times using totals of 5, 6 and 7.

Most Children- Using various resources, can your child make 5, 6, and 7 in different ways? If you have some farm animals, perhaps you can make 2 pens. If I put 3 animals in this pen, how many will be in the other pen? How many altogether? What is a different way we could split them between the 2 pens to make 5, 6 and 7?

Challenge- Can you record all the number pairs for 5, 6 and 7? Does your child do this randomly or logically? Let them decide but then show your child how we can start with 0 +5=5  1+4=5  2+3=5 etc. so we don't miss a number pair out.

Topic- Over the week

Using the birds that you used for the Numeracy activity- Can you write down 1 key fact each day? You can write about different birds or keep to the same 1. So at the end of the week, you will have 5 facts about birds. It might be what they look like, habitat, behaviour etc. Can you sketch each bird?

Creative-over the week.

"May your life be full of colour".

Anna Blatman

We are going to create "The Kelly" by Anna Blatman. You can see the picture on-https:/annablatman.co.uk

I recently discovered this artist when one of the children in my class sent me a lovely painting she had created. Consequently I have bought a few prints! If you want to brighten a room, I highly recommend. To me personally, "The Kelly" combines the layering tone on tone to resemble the grandeur of life. (Just like Van Gogh, and the circles have a similarity to Kandinsky). So let's have a go!!

If you get a big sheet of paper- ideally A3. As we have done before, paint the paper with a colour wash (watery paint, any colour). When it is dry, draw your bird in pencil. Ensure the bird fills the paper. So the tail and legs are touching the ends of the paper. The drawing looks quite simple, so maybe all the family can have a go. You will then have a family of Kelly's!

I will now give you my interpretation of the painting, but please feel free to do your own thing. Using a mixture of colours and a thin brush, cover your bird with strokes of different colours of paint. Remember to clean your brush and get rid of excess paint before each stroke. Wait for this to completely dry. Then with a thin brush, complete your Kandinsky circles. As in "The Kelly" you can paint some half circles too. When completely dry, you can use a black, thin felt pen to outline the bird- this is optional. I just know this is going to be amazing. Don't forget to write your signature at the bottom of the picture. You might be famous one day. I'm sure you will want to frame this and brighten up a little corner of your house. Or even give it to someone you have missed. A very special present.

                                                                                  Mindfulness

Finger Fiddle

Stand or sit tall. Take three soft, slow, mindful breaths.

Press the fingertips of both hands together in front of your chest.

Keep your fingertips touching, and tap your thumbs together five times.

Say, "Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap."

Now tap your pointer fingers together five times. Keep the other fingers still. "Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap."

Tap you middle fingers, then your ring ringers, then your pinky fingers. Say, "Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap." Each time.

Now start with the pinky fingers and go back the other way to your thumbs.

Snake out your hands and wiggle your fingers when you're done.

Your brain is connected to the muscles in your fingers. When you exercise your fingers, you exercise your brain too, which prepares you to focus.

Weekly Welsh-

If you are not sure of pronunciation, you can always check on google translation. Take it in turns with your child to say the language patterns-

Introduce- Oes gwalt……………… 'da ti ?  (Have you got………..hair?). Don't forget to say the colour in the space.

Answer- oes/nag oes   (Yes/no).

So for e.g.-  Oes gwalt du 'da ti? Nag oes.

Oes gwalt melyn 'da ti? Oes

Fw: Year 4 Wednesday 1st July

Good morning to you all,

We hope the children who attended their catch-up session yesterday enjoyed it and hopefully it felt like you had never been away!

For the days you are not in school, or for those children who aren't attending school, just carry on as much as possible with the online learning.

Numeracy

Maths for this week is all about interpreting data in different forms.  Whichever level you choose to do, you will need to read the information section at the top of section A (bronze) before beginning the level you choose. There is a set of answers for each day so you can mark work yourselves too.

Wednesday- - solving problems with time graphs. All your instructions are on our google classroom.

Literacy

Beginning to research information about Egypt for our own persuasive travel brochures. This will depend on what you intend to include in your brochure, e.g weather, food and drink, local attractions, popular resorts etc.

Topic

There are lots of activities for you to do this week:

Humanities – map work and hieroglyphics

Science / Tech – making an Egyptian reed boat and model Shaduf.

Expressive Arts – Egyptian jewellery and drawing an Egyptian scarab beetle

Health and Well Being – unusual sporting activities

See our google classroom for full instructions on all of these.

Try and find time to practise weekly spellings, some reading and your Welsh work.

Have a good day and we look forward to seeing and hearing what you have done.

Take care,
Mrs Maunder and Mrs Phillips
