English-Matching settings to setting adjectives

Today we are going to look at matching settings to certain describing words. A spooky haunted mansion and a beautiful sunny beach are completely different settings and would be described using different words. See if you can match up settings to descriptions of those settings.

  •          Bronze. (Choose 3-5 settings. You can use the setting posters to help). Match up setting adjectives to pictures of settings. What words would fit where?
  •          Silver. Can you add some words of your own that would describe that setting?
  •          Gold. Think of your own setting and create a list of 5 words that could be used to describe the setting.

Maths- counting in 5s.

  • Bronze. Painting your hands/drawing round your hands have a go at creating the 5 times table. Underneath each grouping of hands write down the sum so the child can use it as a reference for hit the button.
  • Silver.  Play hit the button https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button and use the five times table option. I would tell the children that _ X 5 simply means _ lots of 5. (EG 3 X 5 means 3 lots of 5.)
  • Gold. Switch to playing hit the question. They can use their hand times table to help them.

Topic-Messy map

Using natural resources or craft materials create a "messy map" of a place the learner is familiar with.

  •          Bronze. Using any materials that you like. (you could make this a craft activity or use natural resources outside such as twigs and leaves.) Create a messy map of a room or garden that the learner has access to and is familiar with. It would be easier if the room/garden is sparse.
  •          Silver. Using your lesson from yesterday add some map symbols.
  •          Gold. Try to create the map roughly to scale. While the learners do not need to be exact or draw a scale bar they should make sure chairs should be smaller then tables and the like.
