Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

Matching letters
This activity to complete over the week.
If you have some bottle tops, please could you write t u v w x y z T U V W X Y Z on each top, then have a go during the week to match the small case letter to the capital letter. Explain to your child that they have a capital letter at the beginning of their name and when we write a sentence. Can you think of anyone that has one of these letters at the beginning of their name?
Literacy
Mrs Garbett
I am going to repeat speed set 2 sounds again as these really need to be totally embedded. The sentences I am using, are however becoming progressively harder. If you really think your child has totally embedded speed set 2 sounds then feel free to access the daily speed set 3 sounds on Read Write inc live lessons. Try to write sentences daily if you can.
Speed set 2 sounds are- ay ee igh ow oo oo ar or air ir ou oy
Sound- ay (may I play).
Words- spray tray lay play
Words to read over the week- the of to no my (HFW)

Sentence- Make the sentence easier if required.
Dan has got to tip the mud in the pit.
Mrs Evans group.
Recap previous sounds.
We then repeat speed set 2 sounds as children need to have this embedded before commencing speed set 3.

Numeracy
Keep these activities on the boil-
Counting to 20 and beyond
Forming numbers correctly
Identify numbers 10-20
Doubles to 10
Addition to 10
Days of the week
Subtraction to 10. Having them grouped in 10's is helpful.
Teen numbers
Comparing and Measuring
Recap vocabulary- full, half full, nearly full, nearly empty and empty. Look at the scale on a jug. Can you read any of the numbers? Explain that we measure liquid as millilitres/litres. Can you remember what unit of measurement we use to weigh ingredients to make a cake? Why wouldn't we use a jug to measure sugar/flour? This is just to encourage conversation on the various ways we measure things.
All Children- Tea party/Teddy Bears picnic- To explore the capacity of different containers using mathematical vocabulary related to capacity. Ideally if you had a children's tea party set but otherwise make do with jugs, old cups, containers, a teapot etc. It is sometimes good to use china as it allows children to handle delicate materials. Obviously I wouldn't recommend using the family heirlooms! Use the teapot or jug to pour water in the beakers/cups and use language- I have given you a full cup. I have given you half a cup etc.
Most Children- As above then, who has got the most tea? Can you fill the cup so that it is half full? Which 1 is nearly empty? Can you guess how many cups fill the tea pot? Check, were you right?
Challenge- Choose a selection of different sized pots and line them up in size order. Then choose a smallish yoghurt and estimate how many yoghurt pots fill each pot that you have lined up. Write the number by the side, just in case you forget. Then use the small yoghurt pot to fill each container. Were your estimations correct or quite near? Were you surprised by any of your containers capacity? (Sometimes you might think a tall, thin container holds more than a small, wide container). Record your calculations? Can you now order the containers correctly?
Topic/Creative- Over the week.
(Next week we will be studying another artist, any suggestions?).
Nature Activity.
All you will need is an empty egg box. If you like you can decorate this first in any way you wish. Then inside you can either write numbers on each egg case or dot a particular colour. Then on your walk or from the garden, collect the number and colours you have chosen. For eg, 4 yellow- could be 4 buttercups. Just make sure you check with an adult before you pick. So now you are ready to collect nature treasures. When you have collected all your treasures, can you make a simple picture? Maybe a face, an animal etc.
Mindfulness Fist Squeeze
Stand, sit or lie down and relax your arms by your sides. Take three soft, slow, mindful breaths. Pay attention to what you are thinking and feeling.
Imagine those thoughts and feelings gathering like red hot energy in your hands. Breathe in and squeeze your fists as tightly as you can.
Breathe out and open your hands, soft and loose. Imagine the red hot energy flying away like sparks.
Breathe in and squeeze your fists again. Let the energy build.
Breathe out, open your hands and let the energy go.
Repeat until you feel calmer.
After you're done, swing your arms gently side to side to loosen up.
