Year One- Thursday 18th June

Literacy

Last week we were thinking about the things that are special to us. During this time of not being in school we will have had time to think carefully about the things that are important to us, things that make us happy and maybe things that have made us worry. I know I have; I have found some special places, realised what is most important to me and the noticed things that make me worry a little more....and that ok, we all have worries from time to time.

Today we are going to listen to the story 'Silly Billy' by Anthony Browne. The link below is the story being read by  Alistair Bryce-Clegg

After listening to the story, I would like you to make your own worry dolls...use sticks and natural materials from the garden as well as any craft material you might have or items you can recycle!

While you are making your worry doll, think about what you are feeling and what worry you might tell them. Think about the colours and textures you are using and how they make you feel.

If you are feeling proud of your worry dolls, think about someone you might like to make some of their own too. Can you write a set of instructions for them. Think about each step you used and what you did- don't forget to be bossy and include our bossy verbs!

Bronze: Use numbers to sequence your pictorial instructions

Silver: Include numbers for chronological order and bossy verbs in your instructions such as: put cut, tie, stick etc...

Gold: Include all the elements for bronze and silver but can you ensure you include a resource and equipment list

I can't wait to see your worry dolls and instructions....I hope you enjoy making them and they help share a worry.

RWInc will continue to have live lessons via YouTube so they will help us keep our 'sounds on the boil' whilst we are at home.  These will take place daily and can be located via the following link:

Speed Sounds 1,  2 and 3 are now being repeated so please allow a moment at the start of the lesson to allow them to reload.

 Numeracy

Today we are going to focus on some of our Learn Its, this will help us as we complete our challenges on a Friday.

We need to know, using rapid recall that 6+6= 12, 7+7=14, 8+8=16 etc...

In the class folder is a Powerpoint to help you. There are also a poster, learn it flashcards and prove it cards to challenge yourself with. On the prove it cards you will be able to see the previous steps that you might want to check in with first.

However, I'm sure you'll have much more fun going outside and trying to double a number of objects from around the house or outsideTry to double 6 pebbles....can you tell someone without adding another 6 pebbles?

Have fun doubling your learn Its in a memorable way for you! I'm sure your Learn its challenge results will improve tomorrow!

You might also like to use J2Blast,  it is on the Just2Easy Dashboard...it can be used to help with learning number facts, but also spelling challenges. You can 'compete' against your friends but also other children within Wales! Let me know how you get on and what you think.

Humanities & Well Being

Important to have a healthy mind so make sure you try some yoga, do an online workout, complete the Daily Mile or go for a good walk. Always crucial to fuel our body with some fresh air!

Linked to the Satellite Mission last week. Today we will access the Sport Wales Play to Learn Activities once again. In our class folder in Hwb you will find the story linked to this set of activities called 'Planet Play'. We also used this book last week There you can also find an activity to carry out at the level you feel is most accessible for you. (Bronze, Silver and Gold). Today 'Tip and Run' will help us to send a ball by striking/hitting, select the most appropriate throw, recognise some of the basic principles underpinning competitive activities

As this week we see the third week of 30DaysWild for the @wildlifetrusts....use your time to get outside and complete some random acts whilst taking care of your well-being and physical health.

You and your family might also like to take part in the BigWildWeekend- if you do have fun!
