Year One: Friday 12th June

Year 1 and Year 2 will continue their sessions with Colette from The Wye & Usk Foundation. Your activities from the previous sessions have looked fabulous well done to you all.  I have sent some of the work to Colette who said that it had made her 'lockdown' so keep up the great work. Today we will take part in session 4. All the activities can be found at: https://www.wyeuskfoundation.org/education

Session 4: The Salmon Life Cycle Song and Dance!

This week's session looks at the amazing life cycle of the Atlantic salmon which spend part of their lives in our rivers and part in the Atlantic Ocean.

It introduces the fact that there are different names for the different parts of the life cycle. They are anadromous fish meaning they can live in both fresh and salty water.

Key words: egg, alevin, fry, parr, smolt, adult, redd, anadromous

All you need to do:

 Watch the video clip

Discuss with the children the similarity with humans having different names at different stages of our lives, babies, toddlers, children, teenagers and adults.

Read through the activity sheet with children.

Do the Salmon Song and Dance! Have fun making up your own moves, words, music, instruments!

Save your Salmon Song and Dance video in your folder or email it to us!

As part of your Big Write write a non- fiction report about what you have found out about Salmon.

Please share any work you do with us via pupil folders, email and/ or twitter. Don't forget to include us @trellechprimary and @WUFoundation, we would love to see what we have been up to!

Numeracy:

Today I have been able to add the Big Maths Challenges to our Class Folder within our Hwb Classroom.

There are 3 available: Clic, Learn Its and Safe- we usually complete CLic and Learn Its in Week One and SAFE during Week 2, so please don't feel you need to do them all today. They are there to check how the children are doing and identify any gaps in learning, so let them try on their own. The Learn Its should be completed in less than 2 minutes as it checks our recall of known number facts. I have also added an editable version to save you printing them off it helps. (In the pupil folder on Just2easy).  If you have any problems accessing them, please let me know and I can email them to you- (peacockk2@hwbcymru.net).

Topic

Linked to our work from yesterday of our favourite things. Today we will create a time capsule to remember what is was like during lockdown in years to come.

Have a think about who you spent the time with what you did? what schoolwork you managed to do? how did you communicate with other people who were not in your house? How did you feel? What music did we listen to? What was your favourite toy? Etc. Place all these items and memories in your capsule and bury or store in a safe place to look back on in years to come! In the class folder there is a resource sheet that might help with some further ideas to place in your capsule! Good Luck!

Enjoy your weekend, stay safe and see you Monday!
