To understand diversity
I am sure you are all aware of the current happenings in the media with protests surrounding 'Black lives matter.' It is really important that our children understand diversity and how people are different in different ways. Discuss with them what makes people different? What makes them the same? What would the world be like if all of us were exactly the same? Encourage them to share differences such as hair colour/ skin colour/ religion/ individual needs etc, this also includes our likes and dislikes too. On the Year 2 shared folder on HWB are two powerpoints briefly outlining this. Ask your children to then design a poster all about diversity and how we are all equal no mater our differences. Think of a catchy slogan to draw attention/ what facts or information will you put on there to inform people? Pictures? Examples of how we are all different but the same?

To identify properties of 2d shapes
This BBC Bitesize lesson also covers symmetry. Before completing the activities on there, ask your child to name as many different 2d shapes they can- make sure they don't confuse any with 3d shapes! Ask them what vertices are- we have done this so they may or may not remember. When discussing shape properties, try to use both corners and vertices so that they get into the habit of understanding technical language. There are several activities on this that will ensure they are confident with the properties of 2d shapes. We will look at symmetry in more detail tomorrow. Why not go outside and see who many different 2d shapes you can find!
| 2D shapes have sides and vertices. A vertex is a point where two or more lines meet. The plural of vertex is vertices. You can count the number of sides or the number of vertices on a 2D shape ... www.bbc.co.uk |
Topic
To create tree faces/ make charcoal paint
On the Year 2 shared folder on HWB are 2 different activities linked to art and creativity in the outdoors. The tree faces used trees/ clay or play dough and natural objects to make a face on a tree and the charcoal paint gives you instructions on how to create natural paint to create your own art. If you don't have charcoal/ clay/ plasticine or any other resource that would work for this, create your own outdoor, nature inspired art. Try to create a landscape perhaps or even decorate your own stick for a nature wand. Be as creative as you can. You may decide to write your name using natural objects turning it into a piece of art. You may decide to go in the style of Art attack using various resources to make a big picture that you can see clearly from a height/ upstairs window?
Enjoy!
