Reception Class Friday 26th June

To the Parents and children of Reception Class

"No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted."

The Lion and the Mouse

Literacy

Fairy tales

Today's Literacy is going to be based around your child's favourite fairy-tale. What is your favourite Fairy-tale? Which character do you like the most? Why? Can you retell the story in your own words? If you were the author and you could change the ending, what would it be? If you could put another character from another story in to your favourite fairy-tale, who would it be?

Then in the exercise book, can you write the headings for your child-

Title

Setting

Problem

Solution

Key words- (If you were doing The Three Little Pigs- I will huff and I will puff and I'll blow your house down. Not by the hair of my chinny chin chin).

What I have learnt-(Never give up, always try harder, look after you family).

You can draw pictures to match your headings as well as writing simple sentences. Use your knowledge of phonics and high frequency words to have a go at writing.

If you find it too difficult to write sentences then have a go at writing a key word for each heading.

Numeracy

Keep these activities on the boil-

Counting to 20 and beyond

Forming numbers correctly

Identify numbers 10-20

Doubles to 10

Addition to 10

Days of the week

Subtraction to 10. Having them grouped in 10's is helpful.

Teen numbers

Investigation/recording/analysing data

I hope you had fun completing your investigation as to which vehicle travelled the furthest. I wonder which non-standard unit of measurement you used.

Now we are going to complete an investigation to see which fruit/vegetable travels the furthest. You can use maybe a potato, tomato, tangerine, pear etc. Discuss which 1 you think will travel the furthest. Why? Sometimes you can be surprised by the results. Decide on your non-standard unit, as you don't want the numbers to be too big. So it could be a large tin, empty milk bottle, cereal box etc. Then you can record your results in just2easy on Hwb. So log on to Hwb with your email address and password. Then click the just2easy image. Then jit5, chart and you have the blank table to complete. Don't forget to write a title.

All Children-Complete the chart with your data and talk about which fruit travelled the furthest. Can you give an explanation to your results?

Most Children- As above but add together the 2 fruits that travelled the least. Can you record as a sum?

Challenge- What is the difference between the fruit that travelled the most and the least? This will be a take away sum.

Topic/Creative- Over the week.

(Next week we will be studying another artist, any suggestions?).

Nature Activity.

All you will need is an empty egg box. If you like you can decorate this first in any way you wish. Then inside you can either write numbers on each egg case or dot a particular colour. Then on your walk or from the garden, collect the number and colours you have chosen. For eg, 4 yellow- could be 4 buttercups. Just make sure you check with an adult before you pick. So now you are ready to collect nature treasures. When you have collected all your treasures, can you make a simple picture? Maybe a face, an animal etc.

Mindfulness

Tap and Giggle

Stand or sit with your feet touching the floor. Hold your hands close in front of your chest, palms facing each other.

Try to tap one foot up and down and count to 5. While you are tapping, try to wiggle the fingers of your hand on the opposite side.

Switch sides. Tap your other foot and count to 5. Wiggle the fingers of your hand on the other side.

Switch back and forth as many times as you can. If you make a mistake, laugh out loud and start over.

This wakes up your brain because you are doing 2 different things at once, on opposite sides of your body.

Challenge- Try winking 1 eye and snapping the fingers on your opposite hand. Wink your other eye and snap the fingers on your other hand. Switch back and forth faster and faster.
