Tuesday 09th June year 1

English

Using the bat fact file to get them practicing pulling information from the page.

  • Bronze. With adult support to read the fact-file. They use the information in the text to answer the question
  • Silver. May need some support to read the text.  Bonus question. Is this fact-file fiction or nonfiction? Explain how you know.
  • Gold. Come up with your own questions

Maths-lots of 3

Tallying is one way to create groupings as you make groups or gates of 5. Today we shall look at groups of 3. Using toys or natural resources can you create groupings of 3. Remember to use the language of lots of when creating these groups. We have 2 lots of 3. To help support it might be useful drawing the groups of 3 in a coloured ring using chalk so it is a clear group.

  • Bronze. Can you create 10 lots of 3 groups? As you go create a running total. 1 lot of 3=3, 2 lots of 3 = 6 and so on.
  • Silver. Challenge them to guess what the total will be without counting/laying out the next group. They can check if they are right by counting out the next group.
  • Gold. See if you can answer this challenge. Once entering the enchanted wood I saw a den of Snargleworms. Snargleworms have 3 glowing eyes. I saw 18 glowing eyes, how many Snargleworms were there? How do you know? Once they answered this see if they can create their own word question to ask someone else.

Topic- creating mud animals

I would like you to recreate your own enchanted wood by making different animals or creatures you might find in the enchanted wood using natural resources such as leaves, moss and stones. You will also need mud to create tree sculptures. (You might have to create your own mud using water and soil) I have uploaded a document that gives you a snap shot of what to expect called mud animals in the topic folder

  • Bronze. Create your own mud creature/guardian using natural resources.
  • Silver. Can you give your creature different animal features like claws, feathers and spines?
  • Gold. Can you think of a name for your creation and where it would like to live? (In the trees like a bird or deep underground like a badger)
