Year 1 and Year 2 will continue their sessions with Colette from The Wye & Usk Foundation. Your activities from Session One and Two looked fabulous well done to you all. So today we will take part in session 3. All the activities can be found at: https://www.wyeuskfoundation.org/education
Session 3: Prevent Pollution!
What you need to know: This week's session looks at the how rivers get polluted and what we can all do to help prevent this happening. It also introduces the concept of filtration as a way of cleaning water. It builds on last week's session, providing a further opportunity to encourage scientific thinking. Designing their experiment, predicting what might happen, then seeing if the predictions came true. Following the experiment, we look at the fact that salmon and stonefly nymphs can only live in clean water, so if we see them, they indicate or tell us the water in the river is clean. Hence, they are called indicator species.
Key words: pollution, filtration, indicator species
All you need to do:
Watch the video clip.
Read through the activity sheet with children.
Recap on the things we can do to help keep rivers clean, look at the video.
Discuss how the fish must feel when their river gets polluted decide which poster they want to design. Discuss whether they are going to write a poem or design a poster and its aim.
Decide whether or not to do the filtration experiment. Recap by watching the part of the video and look at the suggestions on the activity sheet. You can try all kinds of filters.
As part of your Big Write we would love to see your posters and/ or poems with your very important messages!
Please share any work you do with us via pupil folders, email and/ or twitter. Don't forget to include us @trellechprimary and @WUFoundation, we would love to see what we have been up to!

Monday 8th June will be our Sports day. Thank you to those of you who sent over some suggestions for different races! On the Year 2 shared folder on HWB and also below are the 7 races you can take part it. You will get 1 point for your house for every race you take part in. You do not have to do them all. We will however ask for a photo of video to be sent or uploaded so we can see who has done what and how many points you have learnt for your house. We will then add up all of the points across the School and announce the overall winning house on Tuesday 9th June. It would be great if you could wear your house colour when doing so, to make it it even more fun! You may even make your signs/ banners to show support for your house!
Don't forget the 30 days wild challenges- day 4!
Have a lovely weekend!
