Year One: Friday 3rd April

Year One  - Friday 3rd April 2020

Literacy: Big Write- to write a story

Using the nouns and adjectives you collected yesterday. Plan and write a simple story about EasterSpringtime....

Noun- name of an object     Verb- a doing word    Adjective- a describing word

You may have characters that are people, children or even animals associated with Easter/ Springtime. Think about where your story is set what adjectives could you use to describe the setting. What can you see, hear, feel, smell? Consider the main event of the story and how the story ends....do they all live happily ever after as in a traditional tale?

Your Big Write can be done in your Home Learning Book or Use Jit5 if you would like to try and type your story. You would be able to add some of the images or backgrounds using Hwb to help you. If you are using digital technology to word process your Big Write don't forget to use the Caps and full stop buttons to show your sentences.

Bronze: to use nouns in your story and use your Speed Sound Chart to help you spell some of your words.

Silver: to use nouns, adjectives, capital letters, full stops and spell with increasing accuracy.

Gold: to use nouns, adjectives, verbs, capital letter, full stops and an exclamation mark in your writing. To spell accurately.

RWInc have introduced some live lessons via YouTube so they will help us keep our 'sounds on the boil' whilst we are at home.

These will be repeated and available during the Easter Break

Set 1 Speed Sounds at 9.30 am and again at 12.30 pm

Set 2 Speed Sounds at 10.00 am and again at 1.00 pm

Set 3 Speed Sounds at 10.30 am and again at 1.30 pm

Note: films won't be available at other times

There are also a range of ebooks and tips on the OxfordOwl Website if this is something you want to look at, but please don't put unnecessary pressure on yourself and your children during these challenging times. If you wish to have a browse the link is:

Numeracy:

Today I have been able to add the BIg Maths Challenges to our Class Folder within our Hwb Classroom.                                                                                                                                                         There are 3 available: Clic, Learn Its and Safe- we usually complete CLic and Learn Its in Week One and SAFE during Week 2, so please don't feel you need to do them all today. They are there to check how the children are doing and identify any gaps in learning, so let them try on their own. The Learn Its should be completed in less than 2 minutes as it checks our recall of known number facts.

Topic:

As we near the Easter Break I'm going to give a few suggestions that you might like to complete today and/ or over the next couple of weeks during your 'holiday'.

  • -Design and make an Easter Miniature Garden- be creative, use any materials especially those from your garden

  • -Decorate an egg- use a real egg, something egg shaped or make your own egg and decorate imaginatively!

  • -Make an Easter Bonnet/ some bunny ears/ Easter bunny mask

  • -Make an Easter Bouquet- use some spring flowers or even just some paper cake case!

  • -Take part in an egg and spoon race

  • -Eco School at HomeThis week's theme is Beautiful Butterflies! The painted Lady visits gardens in Wales at this time of year and flies all the way from North Africa, over 3000km!

  • Task: If you can, get a magnifying glass and see what butterflies you can spot in the garden. If can't get outside, research what type of plants butterflies love or share a picture of your favourite butterflies and tell us why. Here is a beautiful Painted Lady #EcoSchoolsatHome

Thankyou so much for all your support over the last two weeks- it's been new to us all! The activities completed have been amazing. You may wish to carry on with some of the activities from the last two weeks during the break and that's great, we would love to see them!

Enjoy the break and we look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 20th April #staysafe
